Automatonism is an open-source modular synthesizer that runs within Pure Data and has 81 modules. Building a patch within a modular system can be compared to a kind of “musical gardening”: modules can come to life and their interconnections suggest the formation of a sound ecosystem. The act of “patching” is no different from playing any other instrument: it provides an opportunity to express oneself and interact directly with others within a variety of dimensions.
Automatonism mimics the signal flow of a physical modular but features dynamic preset management and advanced parameter mapping tools, plus it lends itself perfectly to the creation of compositions and generative algorithms.
Course instructor Giorgio Alloatti aka m_oo17 and LFZ musician, performer and sound artist will guide you on a path leading to the creation of an instrument, composition or musical algorithm. No knowledge of software is necessary only indispensable elements a laptop computer and a pair of headphones, optional elements instead midi controllers and sound cards. It does not matter which operating system you use since Puredata and Automatonism are cross platform.
