Crunch Tapes presents:
An evening with Otay:onii, thisquietarmy, Tom Malmendier & Hex Vortex
Thisquietarmy (guitar drones, electronics – Montreal, Canada) returns to Berlin for his 24th European tour, accompanied by Belgian improv drummer Tom Malmendier. Fueled by nomadic multi-continental travels and unlikely free-jazz drone collaborations, the duo released “Steppe” via dutch-based Norwegianism Records in 2019, and a new album “Cime” is expected for November 2024 on Midira Records.
On the same occasion for this Berlin show, thisquietarmy will be reunited with Otay:onii, with whom they toured together as/with Hypnodrone Ensemble last year. Otay:onii (Lane Shi) is a multifaceted artist originally from Haining, China, currently based in Berlin. Her artistic practice spans across music, performance, installation, and film composition. Through performances at Harvard University and prestigious festivals like SXSW and Roadburn Festival, CTM, Fusion, Creepy Teepy, LGW, Fekete Zaj, Full of Lava and so on, Otay:onii now has joined the Opera performance “Sancta” by artist Florentina Holzinger. Otay:onii & thisquietarmy also have duet collaborative albums to be released in 2025, expect an impromptu live collaboration as well!
Finally, Hex Vortex will be supporting the trio with his experimental, extreme, extradimensional sun crushing molecules noise. Active in a dozen of bands from 1995-2020 in Berlin including Hure, he was also known for his promoting activities as Obnoxious Ouroboros before moving to the Harz mountains.
