When Vegar came along in 2016 they started the process of evolving their combined tap-string sound\, leading up to their first album\, recorded in the middle of the pandemic in 2021. One Small Step joined forced with sound engineer Audun Strype and video fotographer Jørn Stenersen and booked a temporary closed stave church in Oslo – the beautiful Stave Church from Gol\, located at the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History in Oslo. The stave church is approximately from 1200\, and was preserved from Gol when they wanted to build a new church around 1880. The amazing church\, which has an fantastic interior and its amazing sounding old floor board\, made Janne’s tap dance sound out of this world. The trio spent a full day at the church\, recording and filming for hours\, and the result is comprised into these four epic album tracks. \n\n\n\nPaolo Possidente (Drums/Electronics)Trained as a Jazz drummer he is now exploring the field of electroacoustic music\, noise\, noise ambient and soundscape. He has several collaboration and recordings to his credit. SUMMARY:Riffo/Keaney - Cumstick - Andrés Quezada - Francesco Riffo at PAS
DESCRIPTION:FRIDAY\, 25 NOVEMBER 2022 @ PETERSBURG ART SPACE \n\n\n\nRIFFO/KEANEYCUMSTICKANDRÉS QUEZADAFRANCISCO RIFFO \n\n\n\nDoors: 21:00Show: 22:00 \n\n\n\nFrancisco RiffoFrancisco Riffo is a musician and an interdisciplinary artist from the southern city of Puerto Montt in Chile. His main subject of study is sound in the forms of installation and electroacoustic music. He mainly uses digital mediums for producing sounds\, and is constantly asking himself questions about the limits and opportunities these tools can offer. This\, as well as the creativity and constant change of the world in the XXI century\, are the most important things for him at the moment.https://franciscoriffogomez.com/ \n\n\n\nAndrés QuezadaAndrés Quezada was born in 1993 in Santiago\, Chile. He has a degree in Composition and Percussion from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He was drummer for the math rock band tortuganónima and currently is composer and performer in Narval Orquesta\, an ensemble of eleven musicians that explores an eclectic fusion of genres\, from art rock\, experimental pop\, free jazz\, electroacoustic music and various influences from contemporary classical music. He is founder and director of the record label Narval\, which creates\, produces and distributes new experimental music under various ensembles\, bands and soloists. His music has been performed throughout Chile at numerous festivals and concerts\, as well as in the United States\, Japan\, Germany\, Mexico\, Belgium\, Spain and the UK. Currently he is studying Electronic Composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. \n\n\n\nHis work focuses on the development of instrumental and electroacoustic music for chamber ensembles and soloist performers incorporating various eclectic stylistic elements that coexist in the same sound universe\, thus converging contradictory and paradoxical materials that dialogue with each other. His interest in electroacoustic music and modular synthesizers has led him to develop extended sounds in traditional instruments\, thus creating music with new and divergent tonal and sonic possibilities that explores the crossings between acoustic and electronic media.https://andresquezada.cl/ \n\n\n\nCumstickKick\, Bang\, Bark\, Scratch. SUMMARY:DANCE at PAS: An evening of movement and sound by Kata Cots & David Mariano / Katie Kelly / Camila Araya
DESCRIPTION:DANCE at PASAn evening of movement and sound by Kata Cots & David Mariano / Katie Kelly / Camila Araya20th November 2022Doors open at 19:00 performances start at 19:30Entrance in the courtyard\, Aufgang II\, 1 OG. . . . . . . \n\n\n\nName HomeChoreographed and performed by Kata Cots and David Mariano(work in progress) \n\n\n\nThe unfinishedChoreographed and performed by Katie KellyInspired by the poem titled ‘The unfinished’\, this contemporary dance solo explores the concept of time. Through movement\, I consider what is ever lasting\, with that which is meant only to be brief and fleeting\, and if and how there is any overlap. Particularly focusing on the words: Is it unfinished or is it endless? The work blends music\, sounds and readings of the poem\, to create a collaboration and exploration into time. \n\n\n\nTaurinasChoreographed by Camila ArayaPerformed by Javiera Guerra\, Dicle Yilmaz and Camila ArayaThe bull or as I have called it “La TaurA” appears. This kind and strong animal only attacks when it is hurt. Three women embody “Las Taurinas” based on the archetype of Taurus. Although I consider myself as a woman and feminist\, I wanted to show just a body in struggle. I think recognizing ourselves as equals where we all feel pain and fear generates empathy\, because we can all identify with this term regardless of our gender. The aim of this work is to show the injustices as a contemporary problematic through the honesty of the body in movement. \n\n\n\n(Cover photo courtesy Katie Kelly)

SUMMARY:vovne series: Zone Null: Tony Elieh & Burkhard Beins / Antez
DESCRIPTION:vovne series: duo & solo \n\n\n\nZone Null:Tony Elieh – bass guitar\, live-electronicsBurkhard Beins – bass guitar\, live-electronics \n\n\n\nAntez \n\n\n\nEntrance in the courtyard\, Aufgang II\, 1 OGDoors 20-00 \n\n\n\nKindly supported by Neustart Kulture\, Initiative Musik.vovne series\, concert series of improvised and new music. the series is rooted in distant Siberia and also periodically takes place in several cities of Russia. at the moment\, one of the longest series of concerts at PAS. “vovne” means “to be outside / to go outside / something that is outside”. to listen or to play\, or to understand\, or to feel\, or to see – it means to go “outside” to be “vovne”. \n\n\n\ninfo:AntezThe basic of this sound action is to play the sympathies of the room’s resonant structure\, shaped by its architectural singularity\, and whose narrative path remains permeable to the present moment. This is achieved by using exclusively acoustic means of sound production generated by the body’s movements. \n\n\n\nMy first inspiration to produce a continuous sound with a percussive instrument evolved through an investigative process of the acoustic qualities of the performance space. I picking out various objects and implements over travels tours\, and in working residency I have adapted this piece to be played on a large drum\, which is used as a acoustic amplifier.I develop an intimate affinity with the materials in vibration. I have to evaluate these vibrations in my body at different levels\, to be able to coordinate my postures and movements\, but also like the archer with Kyudo\, tuned the mind to it. For give life to these vibrations I have used\, since 2008\, an dextrocentrique circumambulation. These sounds are often compared to certain soundsproduced by synthesizers but also to the magnitude that an orchestra can. However\, these sounds depends of the reflective quality of surrounding surfaces\, and on the volume of the performance space itself. \n\n\n\nThese sounds have unusual sonic textures\, they escape traditional percussion registers. They test the limits of our perception\, from infra to ultrasonic\, by playing phase shifts. They insert themselves into the intimacy of matter\, through micro vibration\, and we are presented with an audio saturation by noise density. The flow of these evokes both restraint and excess\, immersion and timelessness. \n\n\n\nZONE NULLThe Berlin-based duo ZONE NULL unites Tony Elieh and Burkhard Beins for an unusal encounter of two bass guitars and a variety of analog and digital live-electronics. While for Elieh the bass guitar has always been a main focus of his musical activities\, as an improviser and namely with the Lebanese indie rock band Scrambled Eggs\, Beins only recently expanded his already wide range of extended percussion\, experimental electronics and sound art by co-founding the Krautrock-Noise band Slurge as their bass player. The sonic fiction of ZONE NULL evolves and florishes on the broad musical horizon these two gentlemen have in common\, ranging from musique concréte and contemporary composition via improvised and experimental music to electronic\, post-punk and avantgarde rock.

SUMMARY:vovne series: Bégayer / Eli Ningú
DESCRIPTION:vovne series: the band & solo \n\n\n\nBégayer:Loup Uberto : voice\, lutes\, begena\, bagpipesAlexis Vinéïs : drums\, percussion (sati\, qraqeb\, gardon)Lucas Ravinale : voice\, begena\, tamburelli\, sound objectsJean-Philippe Curtelin : drums\, percussion (surdo\, sati\, qraqeb\, gardon) \n\n\n\nEli Ningú solo \n\n\n\nKindly supported by Neustart Kulture\, Initiative Musik.vovne series\, concert series of improvised and new music. the series is rooted in distant Siberia and also periodically takes place in several cities of Russia. at the moment\, one of the longest series of concerts at PAS. “vovne” means “to be outside / to go outside / something that is outside”. to listen or to play\, or to understand\, or to feel\, or to see – it means to go “outside” to be “vovne”. \n\n\n\nInfo: \n\n\n\nFrench Chanson\, Noise\, echoes of music from faraway and long ago\, modified radio transistors and other old electronic gear… After releasing several sets of raw\, almost entirely improvised direct-to-tape recordings duplicated by hand in a workshop on the border of the Bauges mountain chain\, the Bégayer Trio made new friends. Orphans without a home\, they were welcomed like brothers by the Parisian label Le Saule\, spotted by the chic Geneva-based Bongo Joe Records\, and thus were able to devote a year to the making their debut album\, “Terrain à mire. Une maison rétive. Contrainte par le toit.” \n\n\n\nCo-produced by the two families mentioned above\, the album was a first beam in the musical structure laid by this trio of Alpine fellows: what they sought was the most exact form of mutt-itude\, a nomadic journey through intentionally scrambled ancient musical signs by way of French\, Italian and Arabic song\, gleefully following René Char’s aphorism\, later borrowed and translated by Hannah Arendt as “Our inheritance was left to us by no testament.” \n\n\n\nBégayer’s mission– in the name of those without tradition\, the rejects of a culture of scarcity born in the twilight of popular customs amidst the screams of Noise on village squares and in the flow of digital swarms– is to create a hitherto unknown genre of hybrid gypsy rhapsody. \n\n\n\nThe culture of scarcity can be experiences as a kind of cruel joy\, an occasion to bridge the unsteady interpretation of ancient practices with contemporary experiments and build upon singular variations and excess. Up to now\, every stutter-song intended to produce a joyful though disquieting object whose obstinacy and cruel simplicity triggered a disturbance\, a distancing\, a studied thing that stares right back at us. \n\n\n\nNow\, with the support of Murailles Music\, the trio has become a quintet working towards a new kind of concert: a ceremony with no beginning and no end in which concert-time and quotidian time merge in order to deliberately drain of any autonomy the temporality of performance. Through the vocals\, the homemade percussion and other instruments\, two immutable musical activities will be celebrated and brought to bear on each other: the song of the people\, whose cry of hunger and togetherness breaks through the barrier between art and life – and the art of performance explored as communal effort to describe our times. \n\n\n\nhttp://muraillesmusic.com/en/artistes/begayer/
