SUMMARY:Sky Atlas // Harry Fennell @ PAS
DESCRIPTION:Sky Atlas (IRL)Support from Harry Fennell \n\n\n\nPAS – 18.05.23Doors 19:30 \n\n\n\nSuggested donation. 10€ \n\n\n\nSky Atlas have an exciting year ahead as they commence on their first international tour spanning the UK and Germany.“Stunningly epic and atmospheric\, some of the finest musicians I’ve seen in a long time\, a band who certainly have the talent\, the look and the adoring fans to take them to soaring heights in the music world” HOT PRESS \n\n\n\nSince their formation five years ago\, Sky Atlas have a sound that is truly their own. Simultaneously drawing influence from folk\, shoegaze/noise\, and rock music has led them to develop a unique sonic footprint. While Sky Atlas isn’t an act that shies away from distortion-soaked haze\, the numbers that define this project are cinematic in scope\, determinedly pensive and often quite delicate in execution. There is an expanse and freshness to their sound that refuses to be defined. \n\n\n\nDescribed by Hot Press as being “surely on their way to becoming the next big thing on the Irish music scene”\, the quartet have become a mainstay in the Dublin scene and are excited to keep growing and to take their music to new heights as they work towards their debut album. Following an outstanding performance at Ireland Music Week 2022\, the band have just completed their first national tour promoting their latest single ‘Hollow Embrace’ (Nov 2022). They packed out 10 dates around the country from Dingle to Derry and were described after their Limerick show as a “masterful performance that teetered on the line of beautiful\, and a barely contained cacophony” (Limerick Voice 2022).

She’s ‘a virtuoso piano improviser\, an original composer and a bandleader who gets the best collaborators to deliver\,’ says John Fordham in The Guardian. In concert and on more than 80 albums as a leader or co-leader\, she synthesizes jazz\, contemporary classical\, avant-rock and Japanese folk music into an innovative music instantly recognizable as hers alone.Over the years\, Fujii has led some of the most consistently creative ensembles in modern improvised music\, including the ma-do quartet\, the Min-Yoh Ensemble\, and an electrifying avant-rock quartet featuring drummer Tatsuya Yoshida of The Ruins.www.satokofujii.com \n\n\n\nNatsuki Tamura \n\n\n\nJapanese trumpeter and composer NATSUKI TAMURA is internationally recognized for a unique musical vocabulary that blends extended techniques with jazz lyricism. \n\n\n\nAlister Spence \n\n\n\nPianist and composer Alister Spence is one of the most creative forces in jazz and improvised music in Australia. The Alister Spence Trio with Lloyd Swanton (the Necks) and Toby Hall (Mike Nock trio\, Sandy Evans Trio) has enjoyed critical acclaim both nationally and internationally\, being nominated twice for Best Australian Jazz Album at the ARIA Awards (2004/2007). Voz de la Frontera’s ethereal melodies merge into an evocative\, organic and universal sound that transcends imaginations and boundaries.Giulia Impache’s voice meets Davide Vizio’s electronics to create suggestions and bring different sounds into dialogue. \n\n\n\nGiulia Impache: Voice\, fxDavide Vizio: Electronics \n\n\n\nhttps://salgarirecords.bandcamp.com/…/voz-de-la…https://salgarirecords.bandcamp.com/…/voz-de-la… \n\n\n\nPoligra (Migra & Polimnia)MigraMigra is the new solo project of Davide Vizio\, founder of the Salgari Records label\, andproducer of Nina Simmons & Voz De La Frontera.Migra is a journey through musical cultures\, a listening path that leads to distant places andtimes.Electronic productions\, hypnotic grooves and sounds that migrate like flocks over thecontinents of the world". \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPolimniaPOLIMNIA aka Bea Zanin is an italian producer and musician based in Turin. She released her first EP Me-Mo in November 2021 for Salgari Records. Sheworks on the contrast between the nostalgic sounds of european music of thefirst half of the 20th century and the rhythmic aesthetics of downtempo andorganic house. In search of the Italian-touch\, she would like to find a soundthat distinguishes the Italianness beyond all cliques. She writes and performsmusic for theater-dance and contemporary circus. \n\n\n\nhttps://salgarirecords.bandcamp.com/album/polimnia-me-mo-ephttps://www.instagram.com/polimnia_italiantouch/

SUMMARY:R.E.M. #3 - Music For Closed Eyes
DESCRIPTION:R E M – Music For Closed EyesTue 02/05/23PAS Berlin(From 21 to 10 am) \n\n\n\nWakefulness is the controlled flow of psychic energy\, it is the conscious system that analyses\, catalogues\, removes thought. Sleep is the free flow of psychic energy\, it is one of the many places where the unconscious\, in the form of desires and instincts\, often murky and unutterable\, manifests itself through dreams. What suggestions can the insertion of sounds generate in that liminal phase between sleep and wakefulness? What changes in us\, when we return to lucidity after sleeping accompanied by sounds? And how do sounds interact with dreaming? We might dream that we are listening to music that we believe to be in the dream\, we might dream that we are listening to music that we know to be real\, or the dream might distort/modulate the music and lead us into a more or less conscious listening experience that is impossible to gain in wakefulness.Altering the experience of sleep with music means searching for sensations that can become suggestions for wakefulness. Can we find creative stimuli by accompanying sleep with music? Perhaps we could even influence our unconscious\, dreamlike production through music.Certainly far from any scientific accuracy and completeness R E M – Music For Closed Eyes wants to be an invitation to a personal exploration of sleep and dreams\, altered by sounds\, in search of suggestions\, unusual mental states and even new awareness andinterpretations of psychic production. \n\n\n\n!!!! A rather wild touch\, we might add. Don’t expect traditional Russian folk\, these ladies rock a little too hard for that. Their sonic expression is girlish and playful\, yet feminine and proud. And if the accordion player picks up her accordion\, she makes you dream of the Russian soul. But when Iva Nova start organ\, effects and reverb\, they bring you right back to the big city and its exciting urban feeling. The band was formed in 2002 in St. Petersburg\, and traveled to Western Europe for the first time in 2004\, after the release of their debut album. Ever since\, they’ve been touring extensively\, playing in numerous clubs and festivals in many countries. Besides lyrics in Russian Iva Nova have songs in Ukrainian\, Bulgarian and Georgian languages. Along with exploiting endless folklore resources they creatively experiment with many other styles. The amazing live show of Iva Nova is a colourful mix of lyrical songs and energetic punk dances – that’s pure musical anarchy!https://www.iva-nova.ru/enhttps://www.facebook.com/ivanovabandhttps://ivanovaband.taplink.ws/

SUMMARY:DANCE at PAS: Katy Higgins / Francesco Ghirlanda & Roberta Ricci / David Mariano
DESCRIPTION:DANCE at PASAn evening of movement and sound by Katy Higgins / Francesco Ghirlanda and Roberta Ricci / David Mariano26th April 2023Doors open at 20:00 performances start at 20:30Entrance in the courtyard\, Aufgang II\, 1 OG. . . . . . .SCHEMAPerformed by Katy HigginsSCHEMA is a solo work that explores how and why the brain responds to sound and music. The first production of SCHEMA was in April 2019 and this re-working is a solo endeavor by Katy Higgins. Accompanied by a lively and diverse soundtrack Katy uses dance\, film and spoken word to delve deeper and traverse the emotive connections we create when hearing specific sounds and music. The motivation behind this piece came from the work of Daniel Levitin and their book ‘This is your brain on music’. Like the book\, this piece will be informative and maybe you will learn something new? Using this information Katy will create a space for everyone to laugh together\, maybe even cry together but most importantly – we will have fun! \n\n\n\nHERE. A story about timePerformed by Francesco Ghirlanda and Roberta RicciMankind has always struggled to reconcile inner time with the passing of external\, chronological\, objective time.Is there a moment when\, from inside our partitioned\, chronological time dimension\, we get a glimpse of the other ones?Is this moment a point of equilibrium as well as one of fragility?“HERE – A story about time” has arisen out of such enquiries and reflections. The performers have created a score upon which three dimensions of time take shape: absolute time\, which is unstructured and precedes existence; partitioned time\, which is sequential and chronological; and existential time\, which is human\, internal and\, though bound by chronological time (or\, perhaps\, by virtue of this very bond)\, glimpses “absolute” time by dilating and contracting. In their exchange\, the two performers channel a flow of experience fragments into images which mirror the complex emotions that created them.Here. We have landed in space and time. We both precede and succeed. We are temporary and thereby able to make sense. \n\n\n\nUNTITLEDPerformed by David Mariano \n\n\n\n(Cover photo credit: Giuseppe Signorino\, courtesy Francesco Ghirlanda and Roberta Ricci)
