Gemeinsam mit lokalen Akteur*innen\, Initiativen aus Moabit und Musiker*innen des Festivals entstehen in der diesjährigen Jazzfest Community Week Projekte\, die kreative Teilhabe fördern und neue Räume für Begegnung schaffen. \n\n\n\nDie Festivalwoche beginnt mit einem Eröffnungskonzert von Studierenden des Jazz Institut Berlin im PAS Berlin. Federführend beteiligt ist das Trio Oùat\, bestehend aus Simon Sieger\, Joel Grip und Michael Griener. Mit ihren Improvisationskünsten haben sie erst letztes Jahr das Publikum des Jazzfest Berlin begeistert und es mitgenommen auf eine musikalische Entdeckungsreise\, die im Jazz wurzelt\, aber eine Vielfalt von Stilen umfasst. Musikalischen Support erhalten sie vom senegalesischen Musiker und Griot Assane Seck. We focus on connecting and learning from all different genres and subsidiaries. Encouraging people from different musical backgrounds and contexts to interact with each other and create a curated framework for immediate composition in a live setting. Because we believe that improvisation can mean lifelong musical learning\, we want to view its ongoing practice and performance as an opportunity for the development of one’s “voice” and to create a regular offering for musicians* to keep trying themselves out in this laboratory and working community. We hope that in this way we can contribute to spreading this common respect for each other and the different approaches to improvisation in all of our respective “scenes” and enable fresh perspectives. The idea is not new\, of course\, but we want to perceive it anew. Through the slow birth of movement\, she becomes both mirror and mother\, weaving creation from the silence that birthed her. \n\n\n\nMarco Nektan is a performance artist and Butoh dancer whose work delves into the depths of the human subconscious\, merging elements of dance\, theatre\, and conceptual art. His artistic practice is heavily influenced by Butoh\, a form of Japanese dance theatre known for its exploration of primal emotions and the unconscious. Nektan’s performances often evoke a shamanistic quality\, where he acts as a conduit for collective memories and archetypes\, bringing forth a raw\, transformative experience for the audience. Marco has been preforming for 20 years and has created over 500 original performances and choreographies.Stephen Flinn is an active composer\, performer\, and improviser living in Berlin\, Germany. He performs throughout Europe\, Japan\, and the United States in contexts ranging from solo to large groups\, supporting Butoh dancers\, and various ongoing projects. DESCRIPTION:On the 21st of August Cairn McBain will present his new single ‘Rose Petals’ as well as other songs from his upcoming album ‘Where I’m Bound’.It was recorded with French musician and virtuoso guitar player Raoul Vignal who functioned as producer\, musician session and mentor for the process.It was recorded in the small village of Saint Avit with the help of lots of red wine and home cooking from Raoul’s family.The songs are in the style of Country/Blues/Folk and deal with personal topics such as rejection\, addiction\, longing and finding direction in life. \n\n\n\nBesides showcasing this song from the album the night will also serve as an opportunity to present Cairns new 8-piece band ‘Whistle Stop’ which features members from around the world who came together in the Berlin folk music scene.The band in its current form was molded together by McBains monthly event called ‘Folk\, Blues & Beyond’ which aims to bring together musicians from different backgrounds and get them to play their original material as well as traditional songs from home\, together. \n\n\n\nThis event will be built up like on of those sessions\, showcasing each bandmembers songwriting prowess and the amalgam of the other members playing on it.
