SUMMARY:Neu Berlin Institute of Improvised Music vol.14
DESCRIPTION:14th session of ‘Neu Berlin Institute of Improvised Music’:At the celebrated PAS The I n s t i t u t e is hosting a new improvisational session. We welcome you!In this case the opening group will be: \n\n\n\nDavid Palliser – altsaxophonAlexander Markvart – guitarEmilio Gordoa – electronics & percussionLorena Izquierdo – voice \n\n\n\nAfter the opening group there will be put together sessions by the curator.Doors 19h30Concert starts 20h \n\n\n\nMission:By bringing together different practices of improvisation\, we strive to open up the often isolated situation of music scenes to each other and prevent a structural conservatism that exists in the field of improvisation. We focus on connecting and learning from all different genres and subsidiaries. Encouraging people from different musical backgrounds and contexts to interact with each other and create a curated framework for immediate composition in a live setting. Because we believe that improvisation can mean lifelong musical learning\, we want to view its ongoing practice and performance as an opportunity for the development of one’s “voice” and to create a regular offering for musicians* to keep trying themselves out in this laboratory and working community. We hope that in this way we can contribute to spreading this common respect for each other and the different approaches to improvisation in all of our respective “scenes” and enable fresh perspectives. The idea is not new\, of course\, but we want to perceive it anew. In our case we take the name away from an institution that was founded in Vienna in 2005 under the name ‘The Neu New York/Vienna Institute of Improvised Music’ by the now deceased saxophonist Marco Eneidi and still exists as ‘Monday Improvisers Session’ in Vienna.A warm invitation to you\, if you feel addressed\, and if you want to join this process as a listener!–MIIMKGraphic Design by Daphné Lejeune / https://lejeunedaphne.com/

SUMMARY:R E M #5 - Music For Closed Eyes - A Sleeping Concert
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our sleepover ambient event at PAS.Bring your own sleeping bag and pillow! \n\n\n\nWakefulness is the controlled flow of psychic energy\, it is the conscious system that analyses\, catalogues\, removes thought. Sleep is the free flow of psychic energy\, it is one of the many places where the unconscious\, in the form of desires and instincts\, often murky and unutterable\, manifests itself through dreams. What suggestions can the insertion of sounds generate in that liminal phase between sleep and wakefulness? What changes in us\, when we return to lucidity after sleeping accompanied by sounds? And how do sounds interact with dreaming? We might dream that we are listening to music that we believe to be in the dream\, we might dream that we are listening to music that we know to be real\, or the dream might distort/modulate the music and lead us into a more or less conscious listening experience that is impossible to gain in wakefulness.Altering the experience of sleep with music means searching for sensations that can become suggestions for wakefulness. Can we find creative stimuli by accompanying sleep with music? Perhaps we could even influence our unconscious\, dreamlike production through music.Certainly far from any scientific accuracy and completeness R E M – Music For Closed Eyes wants to be an invitation to a personal exploration of sleep and dreams\, altered by sounds\, in search of suggestions\, unusual mental states and even new awareness andinterpretations of psychic production. \n\n\n\n!!!! SUMMARY:Water\, electricity and windows — Francisco Irribarra / opening night / exhibition of photography
DESCRIPTION:Water\, electricity and windows — Francisco Irribarra / opening night / exhibition of photography Galeria Majatów presents an exhibition of analog black-and-white photography by Chilean artist Francisco Irribarra. Transported to South America for a moment\, we will look at the Chilean landscape through the lens of Francisco’s camera. And there almost nothing will happen\, nothing more than the restlessness of the trees\, the wind-wrinkled moments\, until we are blinded by a sun quite different from the one here. Here\, in fact\, that is\, where? Here\, where the water flows with a different current\, the electricity has a disturbingly similar voltage\, and the windows open inward. / Lena Czerniawska \n\n\n\nYou can visit the exhibition from 26th of May till 16th of June during the events in PAS. \n\n\n\nMore about the artist: \n\n\n\nFrancisco Irribarra (33) was Born in Concepcion in The Bio-Bio Region\, Chile. Francisco Studied Industrial Engineer. After the studies he moved to Santiago de Chile to Study Cinema. In the film school he started to shoot 16mm film and he got interested in the elasticity of the support. The lack of infrastructure in Chile lead him to experiment and discover his own personal process that always arise from DIY methods resulting into the study of the motion picture film as a support to expand the idea of cinema and painting. Francisco Started to paint on film in the year of 2016 and After shooting his first film in 2017 as a director of photography he started to paint on 16mm film more seriously hanging film in his apartment in Santigo to paint long strips of film as a manner of canvas to project his paintings in garage basements and in cinemas around Santiago. In the beginning of 2019 Francisco moved to Prague in Czech Republic where he spent his days painting mostly with oil on canvas\, that process ended up in the result of transferring all the ideas he got into hand painted oil Super8mm film called ‚Long days gone’ an abstract film that follows oil paintings and portraits. In 2020 Francisco moves to Rotterdam to start an Artist residency in Worm Pirate Bay\, where he work in a experimental film lab diving deeper into the optical printing\, contact printing and optical sound and trough that using the possibilities of light to add more density and different layers to the film\, immerse into that process and in the middle of a pandemic he start the beginning of a series of 16mm paintings called Prophetical Screams\, after to finish his art residency he projected his film in 2 cinemas in The Netherlands\, Filmhuis Cavia in Amsterdam and Worm Rotterdam\, concluding that process he moves to Berlin to continue his process of experimentation and mixing between light and pigments\, now based in Berlin Francisco is focused primarily on hand painted 16mm film paintings\, oil collage paintings and 35mm black and white paper prints.

This book grew out of notes he took during daily séance-like sessions with his wife Georgie\, who transmitted messages from the beyond\, either through speech or automatic writing. MoonPhases features a ‘hermetically charged’ drone and performance instructions on 28 cards. \n\n\n\n—- Saturday 25 May —- \n\n\n\n13:00 Inferno (2021\, Elliot Murphy)Inferno is a work for solo cello and interactive pre-recorded strings written to mark the 700th anniversary of Dante’s Divine Comedy. It follows Dante’s journey as he descends into the underworld\, marking each new location with a soundscape. Its modular composition allows the pre-recorded aleatoric voices to be flexibly recomposed during performance\, while simultaneously improvising the live cello part. Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland. \n\n\n\n15:00’…and if these were islands…’ \n\n\n\nA long improvisation featuring various constellations and clusters of improvising musicians from Ireland and Berlin. \n\n\n\n19:00 UnchartedPanel discussion with artists and composers from Topographies\, in conversation with Jonathan Grimes from the ContemporaryMusic Centre. SUMMARY:Elee Kraljii Gardiner/Eduardo Abrantes: "…I am changed and changing…": Collective Creation of a Sound Poem
DESCRIPTION:Elee Kraljii Gardiner/Eduardo Abrantes“…I am changed and changing…”: Collective Creation of a Sound PoemMay 21\, 202414:00-17:00Please RSVP to participate at: https://forms.gle/1JMPku4EdawtEtfaA Canadian poet Elee Kraljii Gardiner and Denmark-based sound artist Eduardo Abrantes invite vocalists\, poets\, musicians\, or people who have curiosity about creative processes\, to explore recording a visual poem as a sound piece. This investigative and improvisational session will be held in English. Light refreshments will be provided. We welcome people of all backgrounds\, languages\, disciplines\, and ages. The session will be audio recorded and participants will be credited in the final work. We begin promptly at 14:00\, so please be on time. The poem\, written by Elee\, is related to a project published in the Canadian literary journal SOME with poet Chris Turnbull. Elee explains\, “I’ve been collaborating with nature doing durational installations based on pieces of clothing and poems left outdoors in the temperate rainforest of Vancouver\, Canada. I monitor the sites to see how they are changed or weathered by the elements and wildlife and record how the poem becomes tattered\, covered in fungus\, and softened by rain. How might we echo this aspect of the text in a sound piece?”Elee and Eduardo will facilitate the group’s experiments at vocalizing the poem after which Eduardo will set/alter the recordings. SUMMARY:Quentin Tolimieri / Eric Wong - Music of Erasure
DESCRIPTION:Quentin Tolimieri / Eric Wong – Music of Erasure \n\n\n\nThe music of Tolimieri/Wong is a music of erasure. Specifically\, they are attempting to remove various syntactical structures from their work\, for example melody\, harmony\, gesture\, and formal development. The impetus for this removal is a desire to evade the historical models that these syntactical structures force upon the listener and that serve\, in a sense\, to obscure the “sound-in-and-of-itself” (if such a thing exists) of the sonic object. The results of this removal is a music that is extremely minimal and reduced\, closer to a kind of sound sculpture than to traditional concert music. \n\n\n\nTolimieri/Wong consists of pianist Quentin Tolimieri and electric guitarist Eric Wong\, both of whom\, in the context of this project\, work with digital synthesis as well. Their intention with this project is to continue to develop and deepen their particular aesthetic and to present the results of this research in this concert. \n\n\n\nQuentin Tolimieri – Grand pianoEric Wong – Bluetooth speakers \n\n\n\nEric Wong – Electric guitarQuentin Tolimieri – Synthesizer \n\n\n\nDoors: 20:00Music: 20:30 \n\n\n\nThis concert is kindly supported by inm – Initiative Neue Musik Berlin

SUMMARY:A Burial At Sea (Ireland) & Arms and Sleepers (USA) — Live Band Show
DESCRIPTION:Crunch Tapes presents: \n\n\n\n‘Pelagic Label Night’ feat. A BURIAL AT SEA (Ireland) & ARMS AND SLEEPERS (USA) — Live Band Show \n\n\n\n– – – \n\n\n\nInimitable post-rock outsiders A Burial At Sea have announced their second full-length album\, ‘Closer To Home’\, set for release on the 23rd of February\, 2024 via Berlin’s Pelagic Records. Irish-born\, A Burial At Sea made waves in 2018 when\, bursting with bombastic creativity\, the ‘…And The Sum Of Its Parts’ EP turned the traditionally austere post-rock frown upside down. A Burial At Sea subsequently spent months on tour in support\, honing their incendiary craft and gaining a loyal fan base across Europe in the process\, playing in festivals such as Dunk! (BE)\, Colossal (DK)\, ArcTanGent (GB) and Bergmal (SW).rom these performances they have gained a tour support for And So I Watch You From Afar\, and local supports shows for Caspian\, Tera Melos and This Will Destroy You.The 2020 bombastic self-titled\, released with Moment of Collapse\, draws from everything from emo\, to math-rock\, to hardcore punk\, and even black metal. The band were finding their feet during the first record but their new album “Close to Home” has shown that they solidified their sound\, with their songs sounding they have been approached with maturity and precision. \n\n\n\n+ \n\n\n\nFormed in 2006 in Boston\, Massachusetts and now based in Berlin\, Arms and Sleepers is the electronic trip hop project of producer Mirza Ramic (formerly a duo with Max Lewis)\, who has subsequently released 13 full albums and 20 EPs of glitched-out grooves that take as much inspiration from leftfield hip hop experimentalism as they do from the slowburn ambience and panoramic euphoria of contemporary post-rock. Latest album ‘What Tomorrow Brings’ was released on 01 March 2024 via Pelagic Records\, and Ramic will be bringing a live band for shows across Europe in April and May to play new material as well as songs from ‘Matador’ (15th anniversary) and ‘Swim Team’ (10th anniversary). Long-time live drummer Andrew G Nault (Lesser Glow) and frequent collaborator Sofia Insua (Easy Easy) will be joining Ramic for this string of shows\, which include appearances at Roadburn Festival and Dunk! Festival. \n\n\n\nTICKETS: https://ra.co/events/1878395
