SUMMARY:Hard to Talk! September: Rien Virgule / joji / Elena Sword & Roman Stolyar / Johannes von Wrochem\, Lan Hungh\, winona Lin
DESCRIPTION:Hard to Talk! September editionbubbles\, bubbles\, bubbles\, oxygen \n\n\n\nLine up:Rien VirgulejojiElena Sword & Roman StolyarJohannes von Wrochem – ten-string guitar \, Lan Hungh – percussion\, winona Lin – pianoGiorgio Alloatti + Teresa Riemann \n\n\n\nEntrance in the courtyard\, Aufgang II\, 1OGDoors 19:00\, music a bit later. \n\n\n\nMurmur on an islandA boundless improvisation\, much like an expedition in the jungle or murmurs on an unnamed island. \n\n\n\nJohannes von Wrochem – ten-string guitarLan Hungh – percussionwinona Lin – piano \n\n\n\nmore info Rien VirguleNo one could have known if the band would have carried on after the loss of Jean-Marc\, neither would have the remaining members\, Anne\, Mathias and Manuel. How can one overcome such an ordeal? \n\n\n\nAs life was flowing on the edges of grief\, and as the three of them were playing together\, a conclusion slowly revealed : a burning lifeblood between them\, irrigating the grooves of their previous records\, which fascinated every audience attending their concerts or – dare one say – their happenings. Rien Virgule was still alive. Then came the urge to go back to work and make a third record. \n\n\n\nUnlike its title coming from a haiku (‘La Consolation des Violettes’\, ie. ‘The Solace of Violets’)\, a radically short form of poetry\, the album itself chooses to stretch its limbs\, to free itself from the innate constraints of a simple LP\, to spread its wings in order to attain an unprecedented stature. \n\n\n\nWhile one can recite a haiku within a breath\, the music of Rien Virgule unleashes a myriad of them. It is crafted by the different journeys of each of its members\, who staggered in the corridors of experimental music for a long time before delivering a very personal vision of pop music\, as White Noise did in their time. \n\n\n\nOne can understand the full extent of the band with the length of this record. Its perfectly blends\, thanks to its almost scientific\, precise sense of narration\, some written pieces on which one can swear to hear the melodic curls of Robert Wyatt\, and totally spontaneous jams. Those latter are cut then glued back so much\, likewise Teo Macero’s work for the records of Miles Davis\, that they tend to form fairy tales from a lab written with magnetic tape. \n\n\n\nJean-Marc\, and his noisy DIY instrumentarium\, gave its part of chaos to the other members of the band\, who are keeping on making a clutter made of metal and broken glass resonate\, as if they were sparks of life. ‘La Consolation des Violettes’ is a woven universe of travellings on the edge of ruin and poems drawn with a soldering iron\, possessed with an impetus of visceral liberty\, a vibrating and profoundly moving music. \n\n\n\nLINE-UPAnne Careil: vocals\, synthesizerMathias Pontevia: horizontal drumsManuel Duval : horizontal synthesizers

A rather wild touch\, we might add. Don’t expect traditional Russian folk\, these ladies rock a little too hard for that. Their sonic expression is girlish and playful\, yet feminine and proud. And if the accordion player picks up her accordion\, she makes you dream of the Russian soul. But when Iva Nova start organ\, effects and reverb\, they bring you right back to the big city and its exciting urban feeling. The band was formed in 2002 in St. Petersburg\, and traveled to Western Europe for the first time in 2004\, after the release of their debut album. Ever since\, they’ve been touring extensively\, playing in numerous clubs and festivals in many countries. Besides lyrics in Russian Iva Nova have songs in Ukrainian\, Bulgarian and Georgian languages. Along with exploiting endless folklore resources they creatively experiment with many other styles. The amazing live show of Iva Nova is a colourful mix of lyrical songs and energetic punk dances – that’s pure musical anarchy!https://www.iva-nova.ru/enhttps://www.facebook.com/ivanovabandhttps://ivanovaband.taplink.ws/

SUMMARY:DANCE at PAS: Katy Higgins / Francesco Ghirlanda & Roberta Ricci / David Mariano
DESCRIPTION:DANCE at PASAn evening of movement and sound by Katy Higgins / Francesco Ghirlanda and Roberta Ricci / David Mariano26th April 2023Doors open at 20:00 performances start at 20:30Entrance in the courtyard\, Aufgang II\, 1 OG. . . . . . .SCHEMAPerformed by Katy HigginsSCHEMA is a solo work that explores how and why the brain responds to sound and music. The first production of SCHEMA was in April 2019 and this re-working is a solo endeavor by Katy Higgins. Accompanied by a lively and diverse soundtrack Katy uses dance\, film and spoken word to delve deeper and traverse the emotive connections we create when hearing specific sounds and music. The motivation behind this piece came from the work of Daniel Levitin and their book ‘This is your brain on music’. Like the book\, this piece will be informative and maybe you will learn something new? Using this information Katy will create a space for everyone to laugh together\, maybe even cry together but most importantly – we will have fun! \n\n\n\nHERE. A story about timePerformed by Francesco Ghirlanda and Roberta RicciMankind has always struggled to reconcile inner time with the passing of external\, chronological\, objective time.Is there a moment when\, from inside our partitioned\, chronological time dimension\, we get a glimpse of the other ones?Is this moment a point of equilibrium as well as one of fragility?“HERE – A story about time” has arisen out of such enquiries and reflections. The performers have created a score upon which three dimensions of time take shape: absolute time\, which is unstructured and precedes existence; partitioned time\, which is sequential and chronological; and existential time\, which is human\, internal and\, though bound by chronological time (or\, perhaps\, by virtue of this very bond)\, glimpses “absolute” time by dilating and contracting. In their exchange\, the two performers channel a flow of experience fragments into images which mirror the complex emotions that created them.Here. We have landed in space and time. We both precede and succeed. We are temporary and thereby able to make sense. \n\n\n\nUNTITLEDPerformed by David Mariano \n\n\n\n(Cover photo credit: Giuseppe Signorino\, courtesy Francesco Ghirlanda and Roberta Ricci)

Improvisation on the verge of total collapse. Klub Demboh is a revitaliser of the Berlin experimental music scene in its openness\, tense precision and dynamic crater of timbres and organised sounds\, text and movements. The Klub erupts immer Mondays. The 11-piece band has frequent guests\, allowing for a slowly but surely constant changing Audio Visual Polyphony.

They started out as a tap / double bass duo when Janne was based in Rotterdam back in 2011\, and Roger provided the harmonic base of the duo. When Vegar came along in 2016 they started the process of evolving their combined tap-string sound\, leading up to their first album\, recorded in the middle of the pandemic in 2021. One Small Step joined forced with sound engineer Audun Strype and video fotographer Jørn Stenersen and booked a temporary closed stave church in Oslo – the beautiful Stave Church from Gol\, located at the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History in Oslo. The stave church is approximately from 1200\, and was preserved from Gol when they wanted to build a new church around 1880. The amazing church\, which has an fantastic interior and its amazing sounding old floor board\, made Janne’s tap dance sound out of this world. The trio spent a full day at the church\, recording and filming for hours\, and the result is comprised into these four epic album tracks. \n\n\n\nPaolo Possidente (Drums/Electronics)Trained as a Jazz drummer he is now exploring the field of electroacoustic music\, noise\, noise ambient and soundscape. He has several collaboration and recordings to his credit. DESCRIPTION:DANCE at PASAn evening of movement and sound by Kata Cots & David Mariano / Katie Kelly / Camila Araya20th November 2022Doors open at 19:00 performances start at 19:30Entrance in the courtyard\, Aufgang II\, 1 OG. . . . . . . \n\n\n\nName HomeChoreographed and performed by Kata Cots and David Mariano(work in progress) \n\n\n\nThe unfinishedChoreographed and performed by Katie KellyInspired by the poem titled ‘The unfinished’\, this contemporary dance solo explores the concept of time. Through movement\, I consider what is ever lasting\, with that which is meant only to be brief and fleeting\, and if and how there is any overlap. Particularly focusing on the words: Is it unfinished or is it endless? The work blends music\, sounds and readings of the poem\, to create a collaboration and exploration into time. \n\n\n\nTaurinasChoreographed by Camila ArayaPerformed by Javiera Guerra\, Dicle Yilmaz and Camila ArayaThe bull or as I have called it “La TaurA” appears. This kind and strong animal only attacks when it is hurt. Three women embody “Las Taurinas” based on the archetype of Taurus. Although I consider myself as a woman and feminist\, I wanted to show just a body in struggle. I think recognizing ourselves as equals where we all feel pain and fear generates empathy\, because we can all identify with this term regardless of our gender. The aim of this work is to show the injustices as a contemporary problematic through the honesty of the body in movement. \n\n\n\n(Cover photo courtesy Katie Kelly)
